Bike path closure to affect campus commuters
Access to portions of the bicycle path along the American River southeast
of the Sacramento State campus will be closed from Wednesday, Sept. 21 to Monday,
Oct. 31 while work on the levee is being completed. Mitchell Engineering, the
firm doing the levee construction, cited concerns for pedestrian and bicyclist
safety for the closure.
The closure will affect access to campus from the American River bike trail.
Bicycle and pedestrian traffic will be rerouted around the construction area
onto surface streets. All of the surface streets being used in the detour have
existing bike lanes and the route will be marked with signage and arrows.
Riders approaching the campus from the east will be rerouted to La Riviera
Drive and into the campus via College Town Drive and State University Drive
East. Cyclists heading east from the campus will not be able to ride through
the construction zone to Howe Ave. but will be detoured to State University
Drive, College Town and then La Riviera.
The detours will be in place for the duration of levee work.
Detours will not prevent access to the American River Parkway except in the
construction areas.
