Indian consul general to open photo exhibit
The first of a three-part photography exhibit at the Sacramento State Anthropology
Museum highlighting the historic Indian city of Velha Goa will be opened by
Bellur Shamarao Prakash, consul general of India in San Francisco, during a
reception from 2 to 4 p.m., Friday, Sept. 23 in the museum in Mendocino Hall
1000. The photos will be on display until Dec. 9.
On loan from India's Ministry of External Affairs, the 36-photo
show by photographer Benoy Behl documents Velha Goa's grand Catholic churches
and religious sites. The city, known as the "Rome of the East," was colonized
by Portugal in the 1500s and was established as the seat of its colonial empire
in India.
Behl will discuss the exhibit in a talk at 3 p.m., Oct.
20 in room 1007 of the University's new Academic Resource and Information Center.
The second set of images will go on display in the Anthropology Museum Feb.
3 to March 10, and the final show is set for March 31 to May 12.
The Anthropology Museum is open from noon to 3 p.m., Tuesday
through Friday, provided an exhibit is available. Contact the museum for information,
