The
beat is on at CSUS
California
State University, Sacramento hopes the rhythm is gonna get you at
its 2nd Annual Day of Percussion, Saturday, Oct. 12. The event is
from 10 a.m. until dusk at various locations at or near Capistrano
Hall.
The music department's daylong multi-cultural event includes special
guest artists Gamelan Sekar Jaya, "hand-drums/body percussionist"
Jim Santi-Owen, Auburn Drumline and West Coast Impact. Featured
events include Music and Dance of Bali and South Indian Percussion.
The event will also include the CSUS Percussion Group, CSUS Drumline
and developing music department students.
Vendors with drums and other percussion instruments will be on hand
to demonstrate instruments and answer questions. A concert at 7:30
p.m. with several artists completes the day.
CSUS Percussion Studies Program director Dan Kennedy promises this
is a wonderful way to spend a Saturday. "It's going to be a
great event," Kennedy says. "It's very hands-on."
He says there is also a free workshop for all ages beginning at
5:30 p.m. Bring your own favorite drum, Kennedy says.
Pre-registration admission is $20 if received by Friday, Oct. 4.
Otherwise, admission on the day of the event is $25. The price includes
lunch. The cost for the evening concert is only $8 for general admission
and $5 for students and seniors.
