California State University, Sacramento social work professor
Santos Torres has been chosen for the Kellogg MSI Leadership Fellows Program
for 2005. He is among only 30 in the nation chosen by the Alliance for Equity
in Higher Education to participate in the initiative, which is designed to train
the next generation of presidents and other senior leaders for minority-serving
institutions.
Torres is the graduate program director in the division of social work. He was
selected for the fellowship by the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities,
one of three organizations that make up the alliance.
Torres will attend regular seminars on leadership topics and work with a mentor.
The fellowship program aims to have at least half of the program’s participants
serving as a president, provost or other high-level senior leader at a minority-serving
college or university by the end of the decade. It is funded by a grant from
the W.K. Kellogg Foundation.
