University to host S.F. Comedy
Competition finals
California State University, Sacramento is set to once again
host the San Francisco Stand-Up Comedy Competition, and in a switch from previous
years, the University will be one of the locations presenting the final round
of the contest. The show starts at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 7 in the University
Union Ballroom.
This final round of the 29th annual laughfest features five comedians performing
for 20 minutes each as they vie for the $5,000 in total prize money awarded
to the winner. Sacramento State and four other venues, including Caesars Tahoe,
are hosting the last of the competition’s three rounds. San Francisco
Comedy Day founder and a comedy club headliner Jose Simón will introduce
the comedians as the show’s on-stage host.
Previous comedy competitors have included actor Robin Williams, Dana Carvey,
of “Saturday Night Live” and film fame, and comedians Carlos Alazraqui,
Ellen DeGeneres, Sinbad and Marsha Warfield.
General admission tickets are $10, $7 for students, and are available from the
