Sacramento State Police are investigating the discharge of a firearm in a residence hall on campus today.
Just before noon, campus police received a report of a single gunshot on the second floor of Sierra Hall. Campus police responded within minutes and secured the scene. Upon investigation they found a bullet lodged in a wall.
No one was injured and no weapon was found at the scene. There were no witnesses to the incident. A student resident of the building is being sought for questioning. He is believed to have left campus.

The University’s primary concern is for the safety and security of students. Residence hall advisors were advised of the situation and are available to students to answer questions and deal with their concerns.
The second floor of Sierra Hall houses about 80 students, many of whom have already left for the weekend.
