There is still time to register for two of Sacramento State’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute’s newest courses.
- Shakespeare on Film will be offered 6 to 9 p.m. on Wednesdays from Oct. 19 to Nov. 9. Cost is $99. The course will look at how the Bard's most popular plays have been translated for the screen, from the silent era to the present. Participants will view films and discuss the challenges faced by the creative team, and the contributions of directors and actors such as Olivier, Branagh, Zefferelli, Burton, Pickford, and McKellen. The instructor, Bob Irvin, is an award-winning director, actor, producer, teacher, and playwright. He has taught theatre and film for the Los Rios Community College District for 20 years, and serves as resident director of the Fair Oaks Theatre Festival.
- Internet Vacation Planning will be offered 6 to 8 p.m. on Mondays from Nov. 7 to Dec. 12. Cost is $99. Participants will learn how to use Internet tools to plan a dream vacation, research exotic destinations, discover events and attractions of special interest, and investigate food, lodging and transportation options. They will also learn ho to avoid common pitfalls by learning how to find discounts, navigate security and customs checkpoints, and manage the special challenges of international travel. The instructor, MaryAnne Bobrow, C.A.E., C.M.P., is the owner of an association and event management company. She teaches for the College of Continuing Education at Sacramento State.

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute is a learning community for adults aged 50 and over on the Sacramento State campus. It offers short, non-credit courses and conferences year-round on topics selected by participants, from Sacramento theatre to Northern California cuisine.
