Conference focuses on student leadership
Helping teachers identify and nurture
leadership skills among students is the topic of the "Learners
to Leaders: Weaving Leadership into K-12 Learning" conference,
Friday and Saturday, Oct. 26 - 27 at California State University,
Sacramento. Friday's events will be held in the Steven Lee
Yamshon Alumni Center and Saturday's will be in the University
Union Ballroom.
On Friday from 8:30 to 4 p.m., Clay Roberts, known for his
work on asset development, will lead a session on identifying
the principles guiding courageous leaders and provide practical
examples of student leadership development. From 5 to 7:30
p.m., Barry Posner, coauthor of The Leadership Challenge
will give the keynote address.
Saturday's topics include conflict management, elementary
school student councils, students in the role of class computer
technician, having students produce a weekly television show
and building an online community. There will also be tips
for uncovering leadership skills among at-risk children and
children with learning disabilities.
The conference is being sponsored by CSUS Regional and Continuing
Education and is open to both teachers and parents. Registration
fees range from $199 to $249 and continuing education units
are available for additional charge.
