“A Jubilant Song” rings in fall choir season
The Sacramento State Men’s Chorus, Women’s Chorus, Chamber Choir
and University Chorus will regale Sacramento with their first performance of
the Fall 2006 season on Saturday, Nov. 4 at 8 p.m. in Sacred Heart Church on
39th and J Streets.
The choirs’ “A Jubilant Song” program will offer a wide range
of musical styles from each of the choral groups. The University Chorus will
sing Ralph Vaughan Williams’ “Serenade to Music” and Eric
Whitacre’s “Leonardo Dreams of His Flying Machine,” while
the Women’s Chorus will perform Gwyneth Walker’s “I Will Be
Earth” and premiers Kate Janzen’s “Love Came Gently,”
which was written especially for the Women’s Chorus. The Men’s Chorus
will feature works by Rachmaninoff, David Childs and a double-choir composition
by Jacob Handl.
The evening will round out with a combined choir performance of William Mathias’
“Let the People Praise Thee, O God,” which was written for Princess
Diana and Prince Charles’ wedding and will feature the new organ recently
installed in Sacred Heart Church.
The other fall performance of the Sacramento State choirs, “A Procession
of Carols,” will also be held at the Sacred Heart Church on Saturday,
Dec. 2 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 3 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. The program, featuring
carols from around the world, candlelit processions and an audience sing along,
is a popular local favorite, so buying tickets in advance is strongly suggested.
Tickets for all performances are $10 general, $5 students and seniors. Tickets
are available from the Sacramento State Ticket Office at (916) 278-4323 or Tickets.com.
