Design students create a new look for time

Design students at California State University, Sacramento are taking time into their own hands, creating clocks that represent famous designers and their works. A display of the timepieces, the Tic Toc Clock Exhibition, runs from Friday, Nov. 14 to Thursday, Nov. 20 in the Design Gallery, Mariposa Hall 4000. A reception will be held 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. on Nov. 20.

Professor Jill Pable says forty students enrolled in her introduction to design class first research a “design hero” or well-known practitioner of architecture or interiors. Then, the students create clocks that represent the designers or their art. Pable says some of the designers symbolized are Michael Graves, Phillippe Starck, Mies Van Der Rohe, and Frank Gehry.

The University‘s department of design includes classes and field study projects for nearly 500 students enrolled in the graphic design, interior design, and photography programs.
