Second Saturday for older adults
This month's Second Saturday Art Walk in Sacramento will feature a special show for the region's older adults. "A Day of Art and Socializing" will feature works by renowned Bay Area and local artists who are also on the plus side of 50. The event, sponsored by a Sacramento State gerontology class project, will be held from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 12, at the Ethel MacLeod Hart Multipurpose Senior Center at 915 27 th St., with an artist reception from 2 to 4 p.m.
Alongside work from local artists, featured will be works by Stanley Mouse, album cover artist for bands such as the Grateful Dead and Journey, and pieces by wearable art and jewelry designers Lee Brooks and Gregory Franke of Alex & Lee Jewelry, whose collectors have included Cher and Salvador Dali.
"This event is about making friends, and getting older adults out of isolation," says Maria Cristina Falasci, a gerontology student who is planning the event. "It gives them opportunities to enjoy one another and the artists in a venue that they might feel comfortable with." She says that socialization and mental stimulation are key components of a healthy life during the aging process.
