Shakespeare
meets opera in fall production
The California State University, Sacramento Opera Theatre will perform
scenes from operas based on works by William Shakespeare on Thursday
and Friday, Dec. 5 and 6 at 8 p.m in the University Theatre.
The "Lyrical Legacy of Shakespeare" will feature excerpts
from Gounod's Romeo et Juliette, Verdi's Macbeth and Otello, Vaughan
Williams' Sir John in Love, and Bellini's I Capuleti e I Montecchi,
are among those included in the one and one-half hour performance.
Now in its 26th year, the Opera Theatre is attracting students who
have the discipline and qualifications for an opera career, says
Lynn Stradley, director and professor of music. Two of Stradley's
former students are currently under contract -and another is looking
to sign- with Opera San Jose.
Tickets are $8 for adults, $5 for students and seniors and are available
at the CSUS ticket office at 278-4323, online at www.tickets.com,
or at the door one hour prior to the performance.
Media assistance is available by contacting the CSUS public affairs
