“Transcendent
Landscape,” a collection of recent works by Chinese artist Shimo featuring
landscapes of China, Tibet and California, will be on display in Sacramento
State’s University Library Gallery Annex from Friday, Dec. 1 to Sunday,
Dec. 17.
The works are painted on large sheets of special handmade paper and are a blend
of Chinese and Western techniques. The paintings were inspired by Shimo’s
visits to the various locations and are painted from the heart, he says. “For
me, painting is a combination of skill, accident, and emotion. It is a transcending
experience.”
Shimo will give a lecture on his work at 5:30 p.m., Friday, Dec. 1 in Mariposa
Hall 1000. A reception at the Library Gallery Annex will follow from 6:30 to
8 p.m. During the reception, a Chinese language docent tour will be available.
Additional Chinese language docent tours will be available from 10 a.m. –
noon, Dec. 5 and 12.
English language docent tours of the exhibition are available by calling (916)
803-5818. For more information about the exhibit, contact Sacramento State Professor
