Assortment of choreographers, dance styles
presented in faculty dance concert

The legacy of dance and the Department of Theatre and Dance’s 50th anniversary are celebrated at Sacramento State with works from University faculty, artists-in-residence and guest artists. The production “Dance Sites 2006: New Works in Choreography/Performance” begins Thursday, Dec. 7 and runs through Sunday, Dec. 17 in the University Theatre, Shasta Hall.

Directed by dance professor Lorelei Bayne, the performance features many styles of dance ranging from tap, jazz, contemporary and ballet. Music pieces accompanying the works vary from the Talking Heads to John Cage, and the Sacramento State Percussion Group will play live for selected parts of the performance. Guest choreographers include Paul Besaw, Lisa Russo, Dale Scholl and Keith Williams.

“Dance Sites” choreographer and Sacramento State professor emeritus Dale Scholl will be on hand for a special lecture documenting the growth of the University’s dance program at 7:30 p.m., Dec. 8, prior to the show. There will also be a question and answer session with the faculty choreographers after the Dec. 7 show, with a reception to follow.

Showtimes are Thursday, Dec. 7 and 14 at 6:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday, Dec. 8, 9, 15 and 16 at 8 p.m., and Sunday, Dec. 10 and 17 at 2 p.m..
