Grads at the 2006 winter commencement were all smiles.
Grads at the 2006 winter commencement were all smiles.

Students set to graduate from Sacramento State on Dec. 20, 21 and 22 are anticipating the thrill of degree completion, as well as the beginning of their post-college careers.

“Job opportunities are good for our graduates,” Analia Mendez, associate director of the Career Center, says. “The fields with the highest demand are accounting, nursing, speech pathology and physical therapy. Math teachers at every level are greatly needed. The CHP, sheriff and police departments prefer that their officers have bachelor’s degrees. And workers in STEM- (science, technology, engineering and math) related fields are in high demand as well.”

Students who are still searching for jobs can take advantage of services the Career Center offers. “We have an on-campus recruitment program that targets seniors close to graduation,” Mendez says. Students up to six months out of graduation are eligible for the service, and it also available for a fee to Sacramento State Alumni.

The Career Center also offers an online Career Connection job database, which allows graduating seniors to being searching for full-time positions in their fields. Students can search for full- and part-time jobs, receive e-mails describing positions that match their search criteria, and upload resume and other portfolio documents. Career Connection is located at www.csus.edu/careercenter/students/career_connection.stm.
