PUBLIC AFFAIRS: SAC STATE VIDEO CHANNEL

Students ‘mix’ it up in Sac State dance concert

(Music)

Angela Bolivar, Choreographer/Dancer: The piece is called “What if we could change this?” It is mostly inspired by my mom, actually. We always run through life with this kind of tunnel vision, not really aware of everything that’s going on in the world around us. And it’s not until something disrupts that atmosphere that we actually stop and look at things and things focus in. So it’s mostly about change.

 (Music)

Bolivar: I took a lot of clips of text from newscast stations, from YouTube and of different events that we all seem to be familiar with in the United States, in terms of media coverage.

(Music)

Tung Nguyen, Dancer:  The dance is about the girl who is used to going through life not realizing she has this support. So I’m the support and through the dance she slowly realizes that I’m the support in her life.

(Music)

Ngyuen:  A lot of sustained movement is the most difficult part having to hold the leg up and then bringing it around and things like that. Dancing is kind of a way of life. It’s hard to explain, but if I spend a day where I don’t dance it’s like a depressing day. So being able to dance at least one minute a day really makes my day happy.

(Music)

Bolivar: I just hope I make people think about different aspects that they’ve never really been inclined to think about. I hope I touch on issues that maybe people are uncomfortable with or unfamiliar with. And hope everybody enjoys the show.
