California State University, Sacramento College of Business awarded Dennis Gardemeyer, entrepreneur and developer, the alumnus of the year award on Thursday, May 4 at the 29th annual awards banquet.
Gardemeyer graduated CSUS with a finance degree in 1971. He quickly became one of the more successful developers in the Sacramento area.
Today, Gardemeyer and a partner own and operate Zuckerman Heritage, an agribusiness grower of red potatoes, asparagus, chives and beets. Delta Bluegrass, a division of Zuckerman Heritage, is the largest producer of sod in California. The agricultural operation also produces golf course and sports turf, some of which currently covers the field in San Francisco's new Pac Bell Park.
Gardemeyer has remained a strong financial supporter of the College. He chaired the college's 50th Anniversary Capital Campaign, which raised more than $4 million and plays a key role on the Business School Advisory Council.
