Sacramento State’s longtime choral director Donald Kendrick wanted to do something special for the University’s three choirs for his last performance with them, so he’s bringing them together with the Sacramento Choral Society and Orchestra in a gala performance downtown.

“Praise and Jubilation” will be presented at 8 p.m. Saturday, May 12, at the Sacramento Community Center Theatre, 1301 L St. The performance also features the Sacramento Children’s Chorus and three professional soloists. Where appropriate, the concert will be accompanied by projected supertitle translations, and will be followed with a post-concert lobby reception.

The program includes “Ancient Airs and Dances” by Ottorino Respighi and Dvorak’s “Te Deum.” It concludes with the West Coast premiere of “Jubliate Deo” by renowned composer Dan Forrest.

“It has been a wonderful time over these past 33 years at Sacramento State,” Kendrick says. “I especially enjoyed working with so many talented students.”

Tickets for “Praise and Jubilation” are $43-$53, available at tickets.com or (916) 808-5181.

“Singing in the choir is unlike any other activity,” Kendrick says. “We are like a huge family, drawn together by our love of music and sharing together in song.”
