The fast-moving and touching opera The Marriage of Figaro will be presented by California State University, Sacramento's Opera Theatre, Friday, May 5 through Saturday, May 13.
Sung in English, Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro is one of the most tuneful and funny works ever written for the stage. The opera's main attraction is its 18th century love story and numerous plot twists.
With an all-student cast, performances May 5, 7, and 12 feature CSUS student-soprano Janelle Laurenti. Laurenti won first place in the Metropolitan Opera Pacific Region Auditions last October. An equally strong second cast, appearing May 6, 11 and 13, brings some of the community's finest vocalists as well as advanced CSUS music students.
CSUS music professor Lynn Stradley directs the opera with CSUS professor Leo Eylar conducting the CSUS Opera Orchestra.
Performances will be in the University Theatre in Shasta Hall. Thursday through Saturday performances begin at 8 p.m. The Sunday, May 7 performance starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are $12 general, $8 for students and seniors and are available at the CSUS Central Ticket office (916) 278-4323, or at BASS.
