the Guy West Bridge has room for close to 200 bicycles and
is staffed by University Transportation and Parking.

Free
financial seminar
Alumni are invited to a free financial seminar from 5:30
to 7 p.m. on April 19 at the Alumni Center. Financial advice will
be provided by the pros at Golden 1. The seminar is geared to the
recent grad and is free but reservations are needed by April 18.

State Night with the River Cats
Sac State will be in the spotlight at Raley Field beginning at 7:05
p.m. on Thursday, April 20. The game, featuring the River Cats and
the Tacoma Rainers will be filled with appearances by Sac State
students, the Dance Team, Herky the Hornet mascot, and lots of alumni.
There will also be $1 hot dogs and ice cream. Tickets are $6 for
lawn, $9 for Sec. 101, and $13 for Section 102. Tickets can be purchased
from the River Cats group ticket window or visit www.csus.edu/alum/alumnimonth.htm.

Mix and mingle with fellow alumni and meet the new executive director
of the Alumni Association, Gary Davis, at a business-casual social

Wellness, Events Center and Stadium Complex |
$25
million for Rec Complex
Sacramento
State has raised more than $25 million in private support for a
Recreation, Wellness, Events Center and Stadium Complex, a project
on the south side of campus that has been a high priority for the
University. Campus officials are planning a groundbreaking on the
first phase of the project—a new fieldhouse—by fall
2006.

gets rolling
The Sacramento Area Council of Governments approved a $924,000 capital
grant for the planned “Sac State Tram”—a bus rapid
transit-type system that will serve as a people-mover loop around
the campus and connect the University with the 65th Street Light
Rail Station.

Help
for Southeast Asian community
Responding to a strong community need, Sacramento State has launched
a program to train social workers to work specifically with ethnic
groups in the Southeast Asian population. The program will help
social services agencies better serve Hmong, Vietnamese, Cambodian,
Mien and Laotian families in the region.

ready for college
It is never too early for parents and their children to start
thinking about college. Sacramento State will team up with other
local colleges and universities to invite students in grades six
through nine and their families to campus for the 12th annual
“College: Making It Happen” event on Saturday, May
6 in the University Union Ballroom.

Life-sized puppets in Love Suicides
A rare college production of the Japanese classic The Love
Suicides at Sonezaki featuring life-sized puppets opens April
14 in the University Theater in Shasta Hall. The play is the work
of Chikamatsu Monzaemon, considered by many to be the “Japanese
Shakespeare,” and was written specifically for the bunraku,
or puppet theatre.

Sacramento’s annual Earth Day celebration will once again
be held at Sacramento State. This year’s event will be from
11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 22 in the Main Quad.

Hornet
clinch Causeway Cup
Sacramento State clinched the Causeway Cup after the No. 52 Hornet
women’s tennis team defeated UC Davis 7-0 on April 5. With
the victory, Sacramento State gained the five points it needed to
claim the cup, an annual competition between the two schools.

beats UC Davis
The Sacramento State women’s rowing team defeated UC Davis
in the varsity eight, second varsity eight, novice eight and novice
four competitions to take home the Jean Runyon Cup for the eighth-consecutive
year April 8 at the Port of Sacramento.

wins WAC, fifth in regional
The Sacramento State gymnastics team scored 192.050 and finished
in fifth place at NCAA West Regional at Maples Pavilion on April
8. The team had won the Western Athletic Conference championship
the previous weekend in their first year in the conference.
