by the Center for California Studies at Sac State, offers paid fellowships
in California government to 64 graduate students each year.

gathering
Sac State alums will gather for a tailgate barbecue from 11 a.m.
to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11 at the University of Nevada, Reno.
The gathering will be before the first football game of the season
– look for the Sac State banners near the stadium. Tickets

State is set to launch an exciting week of homecoming activities
Oct. 4 through 9, including a campuswide open house, campus “swarm”
photo, the Alumni Honors Luncheon, the Golden Grads Luncheon, homecoming
rally and, of course, a football game.

Celebrate
home opener
Alums and their families are invited to a pre-game party at the
Alumni Center before Sac State’s football home opener against
Southern Utah on Saturday, Sept. 18. The party begins at 5 p.m.
and continues until kickoff at 7:05 p.m. The Fabulous Dicktones
will be playing and the Sac State Marching Band will stop by.

Survey
says …
Fully 84 percent of adults in the four counties surrounding Sac
State think the campus offers an excellent education, according
to a recent survey. In addition, three-quarters had been to campus
for one reason or another, while 90 percent say the campus is vital
to the region’s prosperity.

Sac State’s highly successful program for migrant workers
and their children has received a new federal grant guaranteeing
its operation for the next five years. The grant is for $500,000
this year and a bit more for each of the next four years. It was
awarded by the federal Department of Education.

Emergency?
Men, poor families and African Americans are more likely to head
to the state’s emergency rooms for routine care rather than
seek out a family doctor or clinic, according to a new report from
the California Institute for County Government at Sac State. Latinos,
Asian Americans and older adults, meanwhile, are less likely to.

Alexander Gonzalez will be inaugurated as Sac State’s 11th
president on Monday, Oct. 4 – the first day of Homecoming
Week. The inauguration begins with a 12:30 p.m. processional at
the Outdoor Theatre.
