An old-fashioned Fourth of July band concert will be among the highlights of California
State University, Sacramentos free Summer Pops concerts in June, July
and August.
The four performances mark the return of the popular series, which has been on a two-year
hiatus due to campus construction. The concerts, featuring sounds from the 1940s to
present, are held at the campus Outdoor Theater near the CSUS Library.
The June 15 performance will be presented by The Commanders, the jazz Ensemble from Travis
Air Force Base. On both June 20 and at the traditional July Fourth celebration, the CSUS
Concert Band will perform, under the direction of music professor Robert Halseth. The
fourth and final concert, Aug. 15, will feature the U.S. Air Force Golden Band of the
West.
All concerts begin at 6:30 p.m. The Outdoor Theater is located under the redwood trees
near the University Library. Free parking will be available in all campus lots.
Concert-goers are invited to arrive early and picnic before settling in for an evening of
music.
