Transfer Rates Strong at CSUS

Applications to California State University, Sacramento from community college transfer students for Fall 2000 are up 277.

As of April 3, more than 4,000 applications have been received from transfer students for fall 2000, compared to 3,777 for Fall 1999. These figures are comparable to the same date as last year. Fall 2000 admits during the same period are also up by 104. Presently, 1,806 transfer students have been admitted.

There also has been a slight increase in applications and admissions for transfer students from the Capital Region community colleges, with the most significant increase for junior level transfers from community colleges. Not only are more community college transfer students applying to CSUS, but more are being admitted.

In the Los Rios Community College District this year, applications and admissions from both American River College and Cosumnes River College are up. Only transfer applications and admissions from Sacramento City College are down as of this month, with 15 fewer applications and admissions than last year at this time.

There has been a sharp increase in applications and admissions of community college students from Sierra and Solano.

A slight dip in community college transfers was experienced in the fall of 1997 and1998, when mandated admission standards began to be rigorously enforced. But that fluctuation appears to have corrected in fall 1999 and for the coming fall, when it is anticipated that transfer numbers will again increase.
