CSUS Welcomes New Students
Going to college is the start of a new life for many students. To help its new students adjust, California State University, Sacramento will host its first-ever "Hornet Welcome" Aug. 24-27.
Hornet Welcome will include an on-campus job fair, informative workshops and social activities that will give students a chance to mingle with other students, faculty and staff. Students will learn about time management, personal finance, campus safety and campus activities.
"We are hoping to provide new students with opportunities to gain information about how to successfully navigate their first year at Sac State," says Heather Dunn Carlton, assistant director of student activities.
A New Student Convocation will be held at 9 a.m., Aug. 25. President Donald Gerth will speak on the importance of university education and give an overview of CSUS and its traditions. Participants in the convocation will be dressed in academic attire.
The free orientation program will not only provide students with information about the University, but about the city.
Newcomers will learn how to get around town and will be given tours of Sacramento, which will include stops at Old Sacramento and Downtown Plaza. A vendor fair featuring samples and information from local merchants and eateries will be held at 11:30 a.m., Aug. 25 on the main quad.
