Why I'm Involved with C2S

Being a STEM major is difficult, and everyone struggles with it at some point. We have the tendency to think that we must do everything ourselves without any help, but that’s not true. The Commit to Study program is a great way for students to help students, and I want to utilize what I’ve learned over the course of my undergraduate career to help other students improve their study skills and learn how to succeed on their own.

Advice for Students

Take time for yourself during the semester. It’s so easy to get stressed out about deadlines and the weight of all your assignments, but panicking about it will just decrease your ability to concentrate and finish your tasks. Every couple weeks, stop thinking about classes for a while and do something that you enjoy – even a few hours will help.

My Long Term Goals

I plan on obtaining a PhD in Microbiology, and intend to use those skills to contribute to research on the contributions of microbial populations to the ecological makeup of environments as well as work on improving conversations between scientists and the general population.

Why I'm Involved with C2S

I am involved with the Commit to Study program because I want to help my fellow Sacramento State students improve their study skills while motivating them in their schoolwork. I gain satisfaction from helping others reach their academic objectives by sharing my own experiences and providing new perspectives that may solve their problems. I feel that all students can be successful with the right study habits and knowledge of the available resources. I aim to cultivate relationships with other students in order to make them feel that they have someone who can support them in their academics.

Advice for Students

Stay optimistic and let your goals inspire you to work hard even in stressful times. Although mistakes along the way are expected, use them as opportunities to learn and grow as an individual rather than dwelling on the past. Don’t be afraid to ask questions or get advice from other people because the information may be very helpful in the future.

My Long Term Goals

After graduating from Sacramento State, I plan to go to medical school in order to become a physician.

Why I'm Involved with C2S

Becoming a Commit to Study ambassadors was one of the greatest opportunities I have ever attained. One of the main reasons that pushed me to join C2S is that I wanted to influence others; I wanted to be a contributor to others’ success. For when I help others, not only they grow, but I grow too. I learn from others, just as they learn from me.

Advice for Students

If you know what you want to accomplish in life, stick to your goals no matter how long the path is.

My Long Term Goals

To become a dental surgeon, volunteer in refugee camp, and travel the world.

Why I'm Involved with C2S

I have been that student that has struggled in class, so I know what it feels like to not be on top of everything, but I have also learned that with time, and patience, anything is attainable if you set your mind to it. I would like to share my experiences with other students and help them see that nothing is impossible and that you can attain anything with a little bit of hard work.

Advice for Students

Take everything one day at a time. Don’t overwhelm yourself with deadlines. Spread all your work out, and accomplish a little bit everyday. You can’t do everything all at once.

My Long Term Goals

To become a pharmacist.

Why I'm Involved with C2S

In doing C2S, not only would I be able to help my fellow peers with their school work but I would also gain an insight to improving my own work ethic. This program will allow me to help further develop my communication and leadership skills which are essential my goals of becoming a mathematics teacher for high school students.

Advice for Students

Always be a little open minded and a little skeptical when first being introduced to something.

My Long Term Goals

To become a math teacher for high school students and help them understand that mathematics is more than just about numbers.

Why I'm Involved with C2S

The Commit to study program offers a unique opportunity to help students learn and grow as individuals. By assuming an active role in this growth, I can forge connections with others, build applicable work skills, and even learn more about myself along the way.

Advice for Students

I believe that mistakes and hiccups on the path to our goals should not be viewed as failures, but as opportunities. Each mistake is a chance to analyze what could be improved in the future. Only when we consciously decide not to learn from our mistakes do we truly fail.

My Long Term Goals

I hope to graduate from Sac State with a degree in generalized biological sciences, and then apply for graduate school. My ultimate goal is to pursue a career in behavioral ecology.
