CURRICULAR PRACTICAL TRAINING FOR F-1 STUDENTS
1. ELIGIBILITY AND GENERAL INFORMATION
In order to be eligible to apply for a curricular practical training work permit (off campus), a Sacramento State F-1 visa student must have been in status as a full-time visa student for a minimum of one academic year and must be receiving academic credit for a university-supervised internship, practicum, field work experience, or cooperative education program (coop).
Curricular practical training may be part-time (up to 20 hours/week) or full-time (more than 20 hours/week), depending on the requirements of the internship, practicum, field work experience, or coop. Students who participate in twelve months or more of full-time curricular practical training, however, will not be able to participate in optional practical training.
2. APPLICATION PROCEDURES
-
Locate a suitable internship, practicum, field work experience, or coop position.
-
Register for an internship, practicum, field work experience, or coop through your major department or, if applicable, the appropriate coop program advisor in the Career Center. You will be issued a written contract when you finalize these arrangements.
-
Bring your internship, practicum, field work experience, or coop contract to your international student advisor at the OGE.
-
The international student advisor will review the documents, confirm that your enrollment in the internship, practicum, field work experience or coop has been finalized, ascertain that the permit can be approved, and issue a new SEVIS I-20 reflecting approval of employment for curricular practical training.
