II. IMMIGRATION & GLOBAL EDUCATION TASKS:

Immigration Check In: Bring all immigration documents including your passport, I-94, and SEVIS I-20 / DS 2019 to the Office of Global Education no later than the end of the first week of classes. Students transferring between US institutions should also bring their previous SEVIS I-20 and International Student Immigration School Transfer Form.

Continuing Student I-20 (F-1 students only):  After you have registered for a full-time course load (undergraduates 12 units / graduates 9 units), please meet with an OGE advisor to obtain your final “continuing student” SEVIS I-20.

Health insurance: You will not be able to register for courses until the OGE has determined that you are covered by adequate health insurance. Bring your proof of health insurance coverage to the OGE for evaluation and to clear your registration hold.  To purchase the campus health insurance policy for international students, please visit the ASI Business Office (3rd floor of the University Union). Bring your stamped proof of purchase to the OGE for clearance.  You may also purchase this policy online at www.csuhealthlink.com - select the “09-10 Sac State International” plan.  If purchased online, an automatic email will be sent to the OGE confirming your purchase which will allow OGE to remove the hold.

Address (OGE): As soon as you have located housing, please notify the Office of Global Education. We are required to update your SEVIS immigration record within 10 days every time you change your address.

Address (Student Records): Change your local address in your university student record by updating your personal information in “My Sac State” using the “current address” category.

III. ADVISING:

EDT (Juniors, Seniors and Graduate Students):  Sign up in Learning Skills (Lassen 2200) to take the English Diagnostic Test (EDT).  This test is mandatory for newly-admitted undergraduate students (unless subject to the EPT) and highly recommended for new graduate students (a graduate student will not be allowed to take the multilingual version of the Writing Placement for Juniors (WPJ) unless he/she takes the EDT).

J-1 students not enrolled in degree programs at Sacramento State are not required to take this test, but may take the EDT for English course placement.

Writing Placement for Juniors (WPJ): Juniors and Graduate students should register for the Writing Placement for Juniors (WPJ) during their first semester at Sacramento State. You must take the EDT prior to your WPJ registration to qualify for the multilingual version (see the Testing section).

The Learning Skills Center will place a registration hold on all Juniors (60+ units) who have not taken the WPJ in their first semester as a Junior.
