International Research Scholars

Annually California State University, Sacramento has from 20 to 50 scholars from different countries who come to our university to conduct research in their respective fields. The presence of these research scholars enhances the international dimensions of the educational program at Sacramento State and allows our faculty the opportunity to work with colleagues from around the globe.

Faculty and graduate students from abroad may apply for affiliation with Sacramento State as a research scholar by sending an inquiry to:

All questions concerning the International Research Scholar Program at Sacramento State should also be referred to Dr. Freeman. 

The International Research Scholar Program for CSU Sacramento is administered by Dr. Monica Freeman.  Faculty and graduate students from abroad may apply for affiliation with Sacramento State as a research scholar by sending the following documents to Dr.  Freeman:

1. A resume giving educational and work background, full name, city and country of birth, date of birth, country of permanent residence, and country of citizenship.
2. A letter of financial support.  This letter must be on official letterhead and must include the amount of support being given and the dates for which the support is available.  If the scholar is self-funded, a letter stating this should be given and the letter must be accompanied by a bank statement showing sufficient funds for the time proposed.
3. A brief (no more than 1 page) proposal concerning the research to be undertaken at Sacramento State.The proposal should include the dates the applicant would like to be affiliated with Sacramento State.  Applicants should allow at least three months for processing of all documents.

Proof of English language ability sufficient to complete the proposed research.This may be in the form of a TOEFL score or a letter of reference from a teacher of English language.

5. If family members are to come with  the research scholar applicant, the following information must be given on each accompanying family member: full name, date of birth, city and country of birth, country of citizenship, country of permanent residence, passport number (if available).
6. A copy of the main passport page of the prospictive scholor and of any accompanying dependents.

A Declaration of Previous Presence in the United States. This document may be obtained from the Office of Global Education
