NON-Sacramento State /NON-CSU Study Abroad Programs
If you are a Sacramento State student and intend to participate in a study abroad program that is not one of the programs sponsored by The California State University nor by Sacramento State, you must do the following in order to receive transfer credit:
Complete a Study Abroad Questionnaire in the Office of Global Education.
Set an appointment with an advisor in the Office of Global Education, We are located in Lassen Hall 2304, and the telephone number is 916-278-6686.
Obtain detailed information on the study abroad program in which you intend to participate. You should have information on the sponsor of the program, the location of the program, whether or not the program is affiliated with an accredited institution of higher learning, course information, and what document will be issued at the end of your program for the purpose of recording grades and courses (an official transcript is required to be sent directly from the host institution to Sacramento State). Bring this information with you to the appointment . The Office of Global Education will notify you later regarding whether or not the program you have chosen has been approved for transfer credit at Sacramento State.
If you are studying abroad for more than one semester obtain a Leave of Absence form from the Registrar’s Office on the first floor of Lassen Hall. Complete this form, indicating that you will be on academic leave for the purpose of study at another institution. Please note that for the purpose of transfer credit you must complete and turn in such a form.
Obtain a Sacramento State application form and take this with you when you study abroad. If appropriate, send the application form back to Sac State at the appropriate time before returning (see the directions on leave of absence attached to the Leave of Absence Request). For information concerning appropriate timing, inquire at the Admissions/Records Office. Sending this form to CSUS notifies us that you are now intending to resume your degree program here. If your semester/year abroad is your final term of study for your Sac Statedegree, you do not need to re-apply to Sac State.
Follow the proper procedures to ensure that an official transcript from your host institution abroad will be sent to Sac State. Transcripts should be sent to: Mlima Wells, International Admissions Officer, Global Education, California State University, Sacramento, 6000 J Street, Sacramento, CA 95819-6012
