Effective Spring 2011-- Undergraduate International Upper Division Transfer students from accredited California Community Colleges or California State Universities will be exempt from the TOEFL (or other accepted substitutes) upon presentation of evidence of earning a grade of B or better in ALL three of the following: General Education Area A1, Oral Communication; Area A2, Written Communication and A3; Critical Thinking. Note: California State University Sacramento interprets "where English was the principal language of instruction" to mean that a school is located in a country where English is the native language (the daily medium of communication of the majority of residents is English), and that the students receive academic instruction in all subjects (except foreign language courses) at all levels of education in English.

ATTENTION GRADUATE STUDENTS: Contact the graduate department to determine if Graduate Record Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) is required. For example, the College of Business require the GMAT test.
ATTENTION FIRST TIME FRESHMEN: Scholastic Achievement Test (SAT) or the American Collegiate Test (ACT) is not required however, is strongly recommended to exempt students from the university placement tests if admitted. Scores must be submitted by the college board.
The CSU requires new first time freshmen to be tested in English (English Placement Test-EPT) and Mathematics (Entry Level Mathematics Test-ELM) prior to enrollment. These are not admission tests but determine eligibility to enroll in specific courses. Students may be exempt from these exams based on SAT/ACT results. You will be notified if you are required to take the tests.
