One World Initiative

2012-13 Theme: Global Perspectives on Water

Link your course or program with this year's One World Initiative.

The One World Initiative is a new campus-wide initiative intended to bring together and highlight the many global engagement opportunities at Sacramento State, both within the curriculum and within the broader campus environment. The 2012-2013 theme is "Global Perspectives on Water."

“We want to invite the faculty from all disciplines to address the theme. This could result in a lecture, a class project or could be the main focus of the entire course,” says Lisa Hammersley, chair of the One World Initiative task force. “We also want to connect with the campus calendar of events, including events such as the STEM lecture series, college colloquiums, individual department's lecture/film series, music performance or theatrical production that would engage with or be inspired by the theme. The idea is to create a comprehensive One World calendar of events spanning multiple disciplines and multiple genres.”

Emerging programming includes:

  • Engineering students participating in a water-related project as part of the Engineer's Without Borders program.
  • The Asian Studies program is using the One World theme as a theme for their capstone course
  • The Honors Program plans to host a conference on critical water issues around the globe.
