In response to the One World Initiative the Asian Studies program has used the 2012-13 theme of "Global Perspectives on Water" as the main theme for its capstone course, ASIA 198: Asia in the World Today. This senior seminar in recent scholarship and current issues concerning Asia explores water through perspectives as diverse as art, philosophy, economics, language and identity.

Lecutues given by faculty from departments across the University include topics such as "Ripples in the Water: Women's Stories from India”, "Art of Calligraphy – Celebrating Water", "Water and Global Economics, "Water in fashion", and "Hydro Power: Water Politics Across Contemporary Asia".
