A Message From the President
Dear New, Former, Returning, and Prospective Members:
I would like to welcome you all to the Spring 2009 semester of the Sacramento State Accounting Society. If you have any interest in accounting, you have come to the right place!
The field of accounting is changing and the future of accounting lies in the hands of the students who will soon be entering the industry. With the help of those before us, we all play a major role in shaping the face of accounting.
The main objectives of the Accounting Society are:
- To promote better understanding of the accounting, finance, and information management profession.
- To provide networking opportunities with professionals using accounting in a variety of fields, and
- To present social actives to help members build friendships and a network of peers.
Each semester the Accounting Society holds various events that provide members the opportunity to meet and socialize with accounting professionals from the community while gaining valuable knowledge related to current trends in the accounting field. We will hold eight general meetings featuring informative speakers from local companies, in addition to more than ten tours of local accounting offices, three fun and interactive social events, a career-fair style event consisting entirely of companies who hire accounting graduates called Meet the Firms, and a celebratory banquet to wrap up the semester with scholarships and awards.
Members receive benefits exponential to their participation in the Accounting Society. The more activities you participate in, the more you can expect to get out of your membership. Along with the benefits of networking with professionals and learning about the accounting industry, members of the Accounting Society also have the opportunity to enhance their professional development and leadership skills.
Perhaps the greatest benefits of membership are the relationships you will develop. Meeting so many fellow students with similar interests and goals will give you the opportunity to expand your social circle and build friendships that will last long after graduation.
I would like to congratulate you for taking such an important step in your accounting future and considering membership in the Accounting Society. We have a great semester ahead and I look forward to meeting each of you and creating new friendships throughout the semester.
Respectfully,
Michelle Schmidt
President - Spring 2009
