The Community College Outreach Program

Our chapter’s Community College Outreach Program began in 2006. This exciting and innovative program encourages year-round member participation. Required community service hours can be completed by participating in certain areas of this program.

The programs goals are to assist community college and transfer students in the following ways:
  • Increase awareness of on-campus business-related organizations available to assist them with their educational and career goals
  • Facilitate their transition to CSUS throughout their entire transition period and make CSUS and BAP as welcoming as possible
Additional goals:
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with local community colleges
  • Provide our membership with opportunities to develop public speaking and mentoring skills
  • Increase recruitment of candidates and recruit them earlier in their membership eligibility period
  • The program offers the following services:

    In-class guest speakers

Beta Alpha Psi members speak to Financial and Managerial Accounting classes at local community colleges and to lower-division CSUS classes. Information is provided on the benefits of participating in CSUS on-campus business organizations. Additionally, speakers will answer questions about their CSUS experiences and the transfer process in general.

    Mentors for transferring accounting majors

Transferring accounting students are offered a “BAP Buddy” who will provide advice and assistance transitioning from community college to CSUS.

    Careers in Accounting Event

This is a career fair event for community college students coordinated by BAP. This event includes professionals speaking about careers that an accounting education can lead to. This event is hosted during the spring semester each year.

The next Careers in Accounting Event will be held on Monday, April 27, 2009 in Ballroom I & II of the University Union from 4:30 PM to 10:00 PM.

Attendance is free to all students considering a career in accounting, from all local schools. Students from local Community Colleges are encouraged to attend!
