Blood and Guts: An Introduction to Human Anatomy

Students of the Spring 2003 Anatomy Class

Course Description:

This course introduces students to the gross and microscopic structure of the human body.
Through lecture and guided activities, students explore the basic structure and function of the major organs and organ systems of the human body and discover how they work together. Students examine various cells and tissues using the compound microscope and learn to identify different tissue types using prepared microscope slides.

The majority of time is devoted to hands on activities and dissections (sheep heart, eye, and brain). Terminology relating to organs and organ systems is discussed.

Students who successfully complete all course requirements are eligible to receive 1 unit of high school credit in science.

A textbook is not required. All necessary materials are provided in class in the form of handouts and worksheets.
