ATS To Take Classes Through the ATS Program You Must: Take the SCAT (School and College Ability Test)
Admission to ATS begins with testing. Sixth through ninth grade students are identified by school representatives as likely candidates for advanced-level testing and offered the opportunity to take the School and College Ability Test (SCAT) through ATS. Students may take the SCAT if school personnel or parents feel they would benefit from the experience. The SCAT is a mini-version of the Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT-1), the test usually taken by college-bound high school seniors. SCAT scores are converted to give an estimate of how well students might perform if they were to take the SAT-1 at this time. Students may use scores from either the SAT-1 or the SCAT when applying to ATS summer classes. For students who have not taken either test, or who seek to improve scores from previous years, ATS usually will administer the SCAT on the CSUS Campus. To find out the next test date, please contact the ATS office at 916-278-7032. Students are not required to take the test each year, but they may retake the exam to try to improve their scores. The student's highest verbal or mathematics score will be accepted.
