Found a Critter:
What to do?

The following is the best resource regarding what to do in case you find sick or injured wildlife.

http://www.wildlifecareassociation.net/

If you find a sick or injured animal DO NOT bring it to the Biology Department. We are unable to rehabilitate these animals on our premises. Instead, if you find a sick or injured animal please call 916-965-WILD(9453) and follow the direction you will be given.

THERE IS NO PICK-UP SERVICE. YOU WILL HAVE TO TAKE YOUR FINDLING TO THE REHAB. CENTER YOURSELF. IF IT IS A BABY BIRD OR MAMMAL, IT IS BEST TO KEEP IT NEAR OR GET IT BACK TO THE NEST FROM WHICH IT MAY HAVE FALLEN.

FOR SPECIFIC DIRECTIONS AND INFO. REGARDING WHAT TO DO: CALL 916-965-9453

Currently (Spring 2006): The bird intake facility is located at 4215 Kitty Lane which is off Hwy 80 and Auburn Blvd. between Winding Way and Orange Grove Avenue (behind a warehouse containing a car alarm business).

Directions: From Hwy. 80 take the Watt/Auburn Blvd. exit. Stay in the far left lane and turn left on Auburn Blvd. and left again as if you were going into the parking lot of the 1st business you see on your left - a Cadillac place. In any case, it is a left turn that comes immediately after you make the left turn onto Auburn Blvd.

The Biology Deparment is not the place to bring sick or injured animals because doing so potentially exposes our animals to disease because we do not have the facilities to isolate such animals. Also, doing so may prolong any suffering the animal has to endure due to our inability to provide it with proper care. We also lack the staff to transport the animals to the care facility.

Therefore, call the above number and listen to the detailed instructions. Follow the specific directions you will be given if you are serious about wanting to help the animal.

Animals may be brought to the Biology Department only after you have done the above and called (916)278-7677 to receive permission and directions from the Biology Department.
