“She was like some ancient palimpsest on which layer upon layer of thought and reverie had been inscribed, and yet no succeeding layer had completely hidden or erased what had been written previously. All of these existed in our conscious or subconscious selves, though we may not have been aware of them, and they had gone to build up the complex and mysterious personality of India………”
---Jawaharlal Nehru
My 1 st introduction to India was on a combined trip to India and Sri Lanka during December ‘03/January’04.
SRI LANKA
The Sri Lanka part of the trip..
INDIA
The India part of the trip took us to mainly 3 states of Southern India: Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Kerala. Our trip began in the capital of Tamil Nadu, Chennai ( Madras) where a couple of reminders of its British past (the cathedral and Fort of St. George) are still standing. The great thing about Chennai is that it is near some of the most magnificent temples and monuments I have ever seen. In Mahabalipuram, an ancient coastal port south of Madras, we went to see the Five Radhas – a group of monolithic monuments and animal figures carved out of solid rock. We visited the Shore temple lashed by the waves of the sea and marveled at the huge fresco “The Penance of Bhagirath”
Patience - I am working on this....... Come back later.......
