Descriptions of the Annual Events
It is not possible to give a highly detailed description in advance of each event. Specific menu items and the entertainment program are often negotiated right up to the day before. But we can give you general descriptions based on our recent, past performance.
Annual Spring Champagne-Jazz Brunch. Traditionally we hold this event on a Sunday and provide a Hawaiian Luau style buffet. There is a fish, meat and vegetarian entree with an appropriate array of side dishes. Champagne is provided at each table. There are door prizes, a very brief business meeting to handle any issues requiring a vote of the membership, and quality entertainment in the form of a jazz trio or quartet. Entertainment is usually provided by campus professors and students. The Association makes a significant donation to the campus department/program that arranges the entertainment.
The mood at the Champagne-Jazz brunch is heightened by the Spring sunlight pouring in from both sides of the room, the colorful Luau decorations and foods, and the cheerful greetings of old friends who are looking forward to a long, warm summer. The cool jazz band in the background flows with the conversation and the champagne wines accentuate the island fare.
You can read an updated news article about the brunch which gives details about the menu, entertainment, etc.
Annual Fall Buffet Dinner with a Broadway, Instrumental, or Operatic Variety Show. This event is scheduled for a Friday evening, begins with a no-host bar during the first hour and that is followed by dinner that features a rich buffet of several entrees, such as roast beef, and appropriate side dishes. Wine is provided at each table. There are door prizes. Featured entertainment is usually a Broadway, instrumental or operatic review.
The mood of the buffet dinners is grand. The rich buffet is accommodated by the rich tingle of red table wines. As we enjoy the conversation, food and wine, we can occasionally observe the performers behind the stage getting ready for their performances. There is a sense of anticipation in the air that says, "On with the show!"
