Emeritus Blogs
A "blog" is a website where an individual publishes their written works and invite others to comment. A blog usually has some central focus, such as a social issue, artwork, music, humor, critical commentary, etc. Several of our retired faculty and staff have their own blogs. We encourage CSUS retirees to send us an artricle describing their blog, a photo of themselves, and a link to their blog which we will publish on this page.
Our new Blog Page is appropriately christened by two retired faculty who were well-known for their insightful (inciteful?) political and social commentary long before the advent of blogs: Dr. Duane Campbell, an emeritus of the Department of Bilingual and Multicultural Education; and Dr. Tom Kando, emeritus of the Department of Sociology. Below you will find a description, in their own words, and a link you can click on to go to their blogs. And please, if you are of a mind, jump into the discussion with your own ideas -- it is, after all, what democracy is all about.

CHOOSING DEMOCRACY
A discussion of major issues facing our democracy with a focus on public schooling. The discussions focus on California and national politics with an emphasis on schooling.

EUROPEAN-AMERICAN
The European-American blog provides a somewhat sophisticated, international and at the same time light-hearted perspective on social, cultural and political issues, including problems with which the US, Europe and the rest of the world are grappling at this time. I try to be funny and "cute." Humor is healthy. I usually also find some interesting graphic to highlight each post.
At the same time, I call things the way I see them. Some of the irate readers are Europeans, some are Americans. Not all the topics have to do with Europe/America, but the blog’s name is very apt, nevertheless. That’s because many posts are about how social, economic and cultural issues are dealt with in Europe and in America. I go to Holland and to other parts of Europe several times a year (for one thing, to see my 96-year old mother there), and each trip generates comparative thoughts about what’s going on in Europe and in the US (about health care, the environment, the recession, you name it).
