The primary objective of this group is to design, build, document, and mock-publish a PC/Windows platform videogame. This group will be formed from a pool of students interested in going into any area of game development as a career. The group will serve to give students hands-on experience with developing a game from start to finish, something highly desired by employers in the gaming industry (some companies require that you have had part in developing and shipping a title to be considered for employment). The club will meet weekly and discuss design details, beginning from selecting a concept for a game, developing that game, and finally publishing our work to this website.
Secondary goals for the group include learning new development technologies and tools, possibly making some contacts in the gaming industry, discussing videogame development methods in the real world, and most importantly having fun doing something worthwhile.
This will be a large and challenging project. Our target development time should be 1 year, about 2 semesters. One or two meetings per week would be optimal but development should continue outside of the meetings. Our bulletin boards will be necessary for communication.
All contributors to the project will be recognized whether they choose to stay in the group long-term or not.
It will be a lot of work but also a very rewarding and fun experience.
Our main objective should be to have a finished full game, it doesn’t have to be something huge, just something that at least “knows what it is,” looks complete, and is fun to play.
