Sac State Destroys UC San Diego, Loses In Shootout to UC Irvine
By Justin Ellison

Anaheim, CA—The Sacramento State Men’s Ice Hockey team has returned home from a long Southern California road trip earning a 3 out of 4 possible points.

The Hornets made a statement in defeating UC San Diego 8-2 Friday night in the Tritons’ home rink. Once again, the Hornets controlled the game from start to finish. Three of the team’s goals came in the third period as they made it a point to finish the Tritons off.

Saturday night was a much closer game with a much more talented squad out of UC Irvine.

After 3 periods and a five minute sudden death overtime session, the Hornets and Anteaters remained at a deadlock with 6 goals each. It took 12 shootout rounds, but UC Irvine skated away with the win. The Hornets rallied back twice in the game, coming back from 4-2 in the second and also tying the game 6-6 with 40 seconds remaining. The Hornets still came out with 1 point and look forward to playing Irvine in January.

Sac State returns to their home rink this weekend facing off against two very tough opponents. The Hornets will play host to the CSU Northridge Matadors(4-1) on Friday, Oct. 23rd at 9:15pm and the College of the Canyons Cougars(3-0) on Saturday, Oct. 24th at 8:30pm. Both games are at Skatetown Ice Arena. Tickets are $3 for Sac State students and $5 for non-students. Seniors and children 14&under get in Free.
