It's official, The Sacramento State Ice Hockey Team is back!
On June 24th, 2006, Hornet Officers attended the PCHA (Pacific Collegiate Hockey Association) Summer meeting at U.C. Irvine, seeking reinstatement into the league. The Hornet Officers made a statement to the PCHA Board of Directors acknowledging past eligibility infractions and behavior generally unbecoming of the University and league. Hornet Officers also learned that the former team still owed a sum of money to the PCHA. Questions were raised by board members regarding sufficient team funding, sufficient player numbers, adequate leadership, and official CSUS charter. At that time all of these issues had not been resolved. Fortunately for Hornet Ice Hockey, the PCHA decided unanimously to forgive old debts and readmit CSUS pending Rec Sports charter.
On June 28th, Hornet Officers attended a meeting with CSUS Rec Sports officials and made their case for a team charter. At the outcome of the meeting, Rec Sports decided to give Hornet Ice Hockey another chance. This new Ice Hockey team has been given the opportunity to return honor to the University and their program, but the challenge of fund raising must still be addressed. Sacramento State Hockey is eager to begin a new era. The Hornets will begin their season Friday, October 6th, 2006 at College of the Canyons in Valencia, California. They will have their home opener versus UC Irvine, Sunday, October 15th, 2006 @ 8:45am at Skatetown in Roseville.
