Roy Clothier, CFA is an Investment Officer for CalSTRS (California State Teachers’ Retirement System). He currently serves as part of a team which oversees the Systems’ Securities Lending and external Currency Manager Programs. He has nearly eight years of investment experience and has worked in the financial services industry for over 20 years. Mr. Clothier began his career in 1985 in the banking industry serving in various branch, trust and investment roles. In 1991, he joined SAFECO in Seattle, WA as a Pension Analyst, where he administered 401(K) and 457 plans, and then in 2000 transferred over to SAFECO’s credit department as a Credit Analyst, where he facilitated loans for franchises. In 2002, he became a qualitative research analyst with SunGard Advisor Technologies where he helped to oversee equity and fixed income external manager programs for institutional clients, and in February 2007 he joined CalSTRS in his current role. He also presently serves on the CFA Society of Sacramento board as Vice-President of Membership.
Roy graduated with a B.A. in Finance and Quantitative Methods from the University of Washington and earned his M.B.A. from City University in Seattle. He earned his CFA charterholder and Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS) designations in 2003 and 1996 respectively.
