  • Local Engineer Discusses R Street Corridor Redevelopment Project (February 2007) - Adrian Engel, PE, a project manager at Mark Thomas & Company, gave a presentation about the R Street Corridor Redevelopment Project. R Street, a historical street in Downtown Sacramento, played a major role in the early years when Sacramento was being developed. The Transcontinental Railroad made its way right down the center of the R Street Corridor. The street is filled with many industrial businesses even though the railroad track is no longer in service through that area. Through the years, the track has remained in place as a reminder of the history that it holds. The street does not meet city standards or ADA requirements, so an improvement project is planned for the street to create a more pedestrian friendly corridor being that it is next to a light rail station. The City wants the street to accessible to local businesses while providing pedestrians with a safe and aesthetically pleasing roadway.
