Two Membership Options: Online and Paper

Our Membership system is changing this summer!

Beginning with the Fall Semester, you will have two options for signing up for membership (either new or renewal) and parking permits:

  • Online, with a credit card payment.
  • The old paper way, mailing an application and check to the Renaissance Office.

The new online system will be ready for registrations by Aug. 1 at the latest. A subsequent announcement will come out when the system goes live.

To access it, you will go to this Renaissance website and this Membership page. A new link will take you to the new system and walk you through the process. You will be able to sign up for a new or renewal membership plus optional parking pass on a single form with one credit card transaction. The system will be asking for credit card info to make the payment, but will not retain credit card info once the transaction completes. We will be going to great pains to make sure all of your online data is safe and secure.

If you wish to use the old paper system, a new combined Membership Form for the 2015-16 Academic Year will be sent to you in a separate mailing this summer. There will be a single combined paper form that will be for new and renewal memberships as well as parking.

The new paper form will also be available on this website at the same time it is mailed. If you can fill out the paper form on your computer, print it out and mail it to the office, that will help the office make sure your information is correct (handwriting is very difficult to decipher sometimes!).

Please note that Renaissance Society dues have been increased to $80 for the year effective with the new Academic Year. Here is why. Parking remains $20 for the year.

Any Renaissance Society member who turns 90 before July 1 is eligible for Honorary Membership and no longer has to pay membership dues. Contact the office about this.

By the spring of 2016, we will have the ability to register for seminars online. Seminar leaders will be able to monitor the enrollment for their seminars, making this job much easier. Members who do not want to do this or do not have email addresses will still be able to register for seminars by phone or at the Rendezvous.

Dues Increase Explanation

Dear Members,

This is to advise you that our membership continues to rapidly grow; we are now approaching 2,000 members. Our demographic (65 years and older) is the fastest growing in the nation; the most recent forecasts predict it will increase even faster over the next several years. We expect to have a membership of between 3,000 and 4,000 in five years!

There are three inevitable, significant increases in costs we will incur to manage this growth:

  1. New Internet Technology System, as our current staff will simply not be able to accommodate the new projected growth.
  2. Additional staff or an "overseer" to monitor the new IT System.
  3. Charges for Classrooms will begin in 2017 due to CSUS financial constraints.

We estimate these new costs to mean an additional $90,000 to $100,000 in annual expenses.

Our projected growth and these looming costs were presented to the Renaissance Board of Directors, resulting in a unanimous vote for a dues increase of $20 per year. This will make the annual dues for a member $80 per year (July 1 to June 30) and $45 for a half year (members who join in early Spring or January to June 30).

Please note our last dues increase was 20 years ago, in 1994.

The new $20 increase will be effective July 1.

Thank you for your understanding and support.
