History
Began in 1968
Retired in 1997
There were two jobs suited to me in 1968. When someone else jilted Sacramento State and took the other job I got the consolation prize. Gay and I arrived in Sacramento in June of 1968 after I taught for two quarters at UC Riverside.
I was hired to teach Latin American and Brazilian History. As the tide turned against the humanities and social sciences my repertoire broadened.
I served as Department Chair and Program Coordinator. On campus I was on the General Education Committee, Faculty Senate, and Honors Program Curriculum Development Committee. I led Sacramento County History Day for many years, served on the state History Day board, and worked on the development of the Sacramento History Center.
While I was a good fit for the times, newer faculty are more professional and better trained.
For six years I cared for my late wife and waited impatiently for a grandchild.
