Congratulations to the mentors from Spring 2009 and welcome to those who wish to apply in

Fall 2009!

Urgent need for male mentors!!!!  Please contact us for more information.

PLEASE NOTE NEW APPLICATION DEADLINE BELOW!

The Sac-MENTORING Program is an experiential learning course designed to integrate theory and practice for Sac State students by acting as a catalyst for an engaging mentoring relationship.  We are proud to partner with the counseling staff at Rosemont High School.  This collaboration has allowed for the creation of a program that matches collegians and high school students in an effort to provide youth with a positive role model and friend.  In doing so, the Sac-MENTORING Program provides a reciprocal learning environment while at the same time, providing an important service to our community.  Sac-MENTORING has also engaged in a partnership with Sacramento County's Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) program which allows Sac State students to become a proactive voice for a child in need and most recently with Hiram Johnson High School.  The CASA program provides an extensive training regimen and students who choose to enroll in the CASA alternative will have different learning parameters and academic requirements to receive credit towards graduation than those who are matched with youth from the high schools.  If you would like more information about the Sac-MENTORING Program, please contact program staff.  This year we received a very limited amount of funds forcing us to streamline our operations.  We appreciate your understanding as we continue to work together to provide mentoring activities for youth in our community.

In spite an absence of funding, we are looking forward to a productive year and have some great group activities planned again for this semester.  PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS PLEASE NOTE:  This course will be available on SacCT and I strongly recommend that students who enroll in the class have some experience working in WebCT6 as there is a great deal of information that will be shared using this medium of instruction.  Be prepared to check SacCT at least three times each week for periodic updates and additions to the calendar of events at Sacramento State that might be of interest to you and your protégé.  Using the link to the forms you will need to complete in the left margin above, visit this page and download the entire application packet and syllabus to determine if you are ready to commit to all the course requirements.  After you download the requisite forms, please make sure your scheduled is amenable to the dates and times you will need to set aside in order to maximize the mentoring experience  After you have downloaded and completed the forms, follow the instructions provided in the packet and turn them into our office (Alpine 203).  We have many male students at Rosemont who have been identified as being in need of a mentor so this prompts a call for MALE MENTORS to step forward and submit your application.  The deadline has been extended until September 24, 2009 at 1:30 PM.    Training for the last group of applicants will be discussed when you turn in your application packet. It is important that you complete all the required tasks detailed in the application packet prior to attending the training session.
