Job Possibilities

There are job positions that can grow with experience. The only drawback is that you may be looked over for one with a higher degree or more experience. One reason for getting a job after receiving this degree is that you may find your focus before continuing with education.

  • Biotechnology starting pay ~35K Companies= Genentech, Chiron
  • Government starting pay ~20-30K CDC, NIH, USDA
  • Academia starting pay ~high 20K
  • Research labs
  • Master of Sciences: The only drawback is that you still have to pay tuition. However, one can usually find a higher paying biotech position. Other possibilities are to teach at the collegiate level. -labs $30/hour -lecture $40/hour The masters degree usually will give you a better bargaining chip for salary. This usually means a higher pay scale than a person with a bachelors degree.
  • PhD: Usually one doesn't have to pay tuition in this case. They will also pay you a stipend of 15-25K. This stipend goes towards being either a teachers assistant or a research assistant. There is a possibility of 10K more if teaching classes. This degree has a higher pay scale than both previously mentioned degrees.
