William L. Fairbanks II
Winner of this year’s Daniel J. Crowley Award for Meritorious Service
to SWAA, Bill Fairbanks received his Ph.D. from UCSB and joined the faculty at
Cuesta Community College in San Luis Obispo in 1966, retiring in 2007.
He has been an active, invaluable, participant and contributor to SWAA as
President, hosting the meetings in 2004, and as Chair.
He brought his extensive experience in other scholarly organizations to
spearheading changes in our by-laws and structure.
His thoughtful, flexible, non-coercive leadership and his attention to detail
eased our transition into the twenty-first century and resulted in our becoming
both more efficient and more participatory.
